Charles Ellis “Chuck” Schumer is a prominent American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from New York since 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held significant leadership roles, including Senate Minority Leader and Senate Majority Leader.

Schumer was born in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn to parents Selma (née Rosen) and Abraham Schumer. His father ran an exterminating business, and his mother was a homemaker. Together, they have two daughters, Jessica and Alison, both of whom graduated from Harvard College, following in their father’s academic footsteps.
